Winter Coast – Southsea Memorial

Winter Coast – Southsea Memorial

Filmic fun in the cold winter sun. Yes, today was a lucky day, in which I was by the coast when there was not much wind, I had my hex in the car, and a full rack of batteries. So I parked myself at the base of the memorial, and trying to break as few rules as possible,  spent 50 mins flying round and about getting the nice sea and sun, and boats and greenery, and of course the architecture of the memorial itself and the views over neighbouring Portsmouth… Met some nice people down there (Hi Mick), but the downside of flight spectators means I am talking to them rather than concentrating on getting good film moves, so whilst I don’t feel I’ve done badly here, I do think I need to come back again with some planned moves in mind, because it could be a lot better. Will combine it with Southsea castle I think, which I also need to do properly, and is just up...

Ghost in the Machine…

Ghost in the Machine…

Yes, it’s another flight test. Things going wrong, and the constant battle to find out why, and what the solution might be,  is half of the fun of flying UAV’s, which is just as well, given the amount of things that do go wrong on an almost constant basis. If you want to know what those are watch this. Here’s the report that went with that… Not having a good couple of days. Thought I’d try swapping out my carbon fibre props for the Gemfan nylon composite 11 x 4.7s I have as backup. Did 2 test flights and then decided that flying on those was a horrible , flabby experience, and they were very unbalanced, and that made all the video instantly unusable...

Autumn’s End

Autumn’s End

Harting Down Autumn oranges fade to skeletal trees and brown rust as Autumn fades away, and for the first time this year, winter chills the air enough to make me wish I’d worn proper gloves. So, a chilly but extremely rewarding flight session just before the sun went down, in newly discovered fly-site Harting Down – incredibly just 9 minutes away from where I live. The dogs here are the ‘right type’ of dog, so no animal worries today. Lots of interesting people came over for a chat, and I had my full arsenal of 10 batteries with me, so I had a good hour of flying fun and lots of footage to whittle down to 5 minutes. Beautiful as the landscape is, this afternoon was mainly about the clouds, so there’ll be a lot of those. My cloverleaf antenna finally died today (in the minimal wind), so it’s back to the stock jobbies while a new one arrives. Not to worry… Sound today by All About Eve, in...
